It is the end of January, which means the budget process has started for the ‘07-08 fiscal year.

As always, this is a very trying time for the finance committee. This year it will be even harder, because, after going through the membership roll the abatement committee found a lot of “members” who should not been on our rolls.

In the budget process the finance committee takes the requests from all the committees our dues fund, plus our operating expenses and salary expenses to come up with the amount of money TBH will need for the up coming year. To this gross expense we come up with the amount of money we need to collect from the different membership categories.

This year as you can see will be hard on the finance committee because every year we need more money to run the Temple, just like you need more money to run your homes. Utilities go up. Insurance goes up. The cost of maintenance goes up and so on.

This year I have asked the chairman of the finance committee to be very frugal in what we, the Temple, can expend. I do not at this point in the process see the staff getting raises. I do not see us funding any new projects. The only thing I do see is we all will have to pay more until we can grow the congregation. The more members we have the greater the pool is for dividing our “fair share” of the Temples expenses.

The Temple needs each and every one of you to help find new members. Without YOUR help TBH will not be able to provide more services that you the congregation wants. What I am asking is that each and everyone of us be on the membership committee & help find new members. If you know someone who does NOT belong to a Temple invite them to a Friday night service. If you are uncomfortable about asking them send there name & phone number to the office & either the chairman of the membership committee or myself will call them & invite them to services.
