We had an interesting discussion tonight on The Postmistress by Sarah Blake. Nancy led the discussion and was prepared with lots of questions. We do get off on tangents, which only makes for added discussions.
We decided to read The Invisible Bridge, by Julie Orringer for next month. It is Nan's pick. It is quite long, but comes highly recommended. We will meet Tuesday, 28th of February. ( that is the 4th Tuesday, instead of the 3rd).

The popular Adult Hebrew Class which meets every Sunday morning in Room 7 at the Temple has started a new session for Beginners who have little or no prior knowledge of the Hebrew alphabet or need review recognizing the basic letters and vowels. Right now we meet for a half hour, from 9:00-9:30 a.m. If enough people join the Beginner group, we will expand this section to cover the whole first hour (from 9-10). You are then welcome to stay and observe (or participate) in the regular Hebrew class.
The regular Adult Hebrew class will run from 9:30 a.m. to noon. If you know the reading basics, you are welcome to join us, no matter what your level. We do some prayer book reading, grammar and vocabulary study, and reading and translating Hebrew stories from elementary books. The Hebrew Class is open to all Temple members without charge and no homework is required!
We are a lively group with lots of extemporaneous discussion, laughter, and fun. Come join us!

Temple Beth Hillel’s Adult Education program aims to provide a variety of Jewish learning and cultural opportunities to our members and visitors.
We offer ongoing Adult Hebrew classes for beginning and intermediate students.
Midrash Study, led by our own Rabbi Glickman, takes place every Friday morning.
Twice each year, a group from our temple makes a trip to the National Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, Mass. to view the institution’s exhibits and take in a concert, film, or lecture.
We also have an annual in-temple Movie Matinee (past films include Hester Street, Fiddler on the Roof, and Exodus).
The Adult Education program also sponsors a variety of short-term classes.
Past offerings have included:
- Kings I & II – a reading of this record of the monarchial period of Israel
- The “Minor” Prophets – a look at some of the less-studied prophets of our tradition
- Biblical Heroes and Rogues
- How to Prepare for and Celebrate the Holidays
- Spirituality Behind Life Cycle Ceremonies
- Psalms – a look at the Psalms as literature
- Why be Jewish? What Judaism has to offer us.
